James Cameron’s Avatar (2009)

by Becky

Avatar-Teaser-Poster I went and saw AVATAR in 3D with my Grandfather on Thursday night, so, pretty much the day it came out!  I also went out and put the game on layby for my Xbox 360.  So I’ll be sure to post about the game when I eventually get it and play it.

Just in case people were interested, here is a fansite for Avatar!  Okay, the movie was directed by James Cameron and runs for 161 minutes.  It is an extremely brilliant film with stunning graphics, and a very interesting storyline.  It stars Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, and Sigourney Weaver.  For those of you who love sci-fi and fantasy films this is for you, and there is also plenty of action including fighting, explosions, flying, and so forth.

In 2154 AD, humans are engaged in the colonization of Pandora, the lush moon of Polyphemus, one of three gas giants that orbit Alpha Centauri A, 4.3 light years from Earth. Pandora is filled with incredible life forms, and is home to the Na’vi, an indigenous sentient humanoid race who are considered primitive by human standards, yet are more physically capable than them. The Na’vi are tailed, slender creatures with sparkling blue skin, standing three meters tall. They live in harmony with their unspoiled world, which the humans have found to be rich with unobtainium, a valuable mineral that is essential to remedying an economic and energy crisis that is gripping Earth.

The story focuses mostly around the character Jake Sulley and Neytiri.  It uses the classic “big guy stomping on little guy” theme, but does it so well that you really feel for the native Na’vi and their plight to save their world, their home, and themselves.  I won’t tell too much about the story because I don’t want to spoil it for people who have yet to see it, but I suggest that you GO WATCH THIS FILM!!  It is well worth it.  I think I would rate it a 9.5/10 as the graphics were brilliant, the acting was good, and the camera shots were fantastic.  Very well done!!
